While I love the results cosmetic injections can achieve, it’s not enough for keeping your skin youthful. Here are the three topicals I recommend for anti-aging.

It’s no secret that I am an advocate of getting cosmetic injections if you choose to do so, but botox and filler are not the be-all, end-all of keeping your skin youthful and healthy. As a Naturopathic Doctor, I embrace a holistic approach to aging—including good nutrition, staying hydrated, managing stress, and following a science-backed skincare routine. By combining the benefits of these lifestyle practices with benefits of cosmetic injections, you can address immediate signs of aging, but encourage your skin health from the inside out for decades to come.

A Lifestyle To Support Your Cosmetic Injections

As a Naturopathic Doctor, I love seeing how simple, nurturing habits can really bring out your natural glow. Adequate sleep, for instance, is like a nightly rejuvenation session for your skin. During deep sleep, your body ramps up its repair processes, including the production of collagen and elastin—key proteins that help your skin repair itself.  Additionally, good sleep helps maintain your skin’s moisture balance, reducing the appearance of dryness and fine lines.

Eating a varied, well-balanced diet is another way to promote a healthy complexion. Foods rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients protect your skin from damage and reduce inflammation—I’m sure we’ve all experienced the dreaded breakout after greasy food. And while you know that Skinboosters are an effective way to enhance your skin’s hydration, that doesn’t excuse you from getting your daily water intake.

As a busy mom of toddler twins, I’ll be the first one to tell you how important stress management isespecially for your skin! Managing stress helps your skin by reducing the production of stress hormones like cortisol, which can lead to inflammation, acne, and premature aging. So while botox may be moms’ secret to looking calm and collected mid toddler meltdown, when you manage stress through activities like meditation, exercise, or hobbies, you help maintain a more balanced hormone level, which supports healthier skin and even increases blood flow.

One of the best ways you can complement your cosmetic injections, whether you’re seeing me for fillers, botox, or both, is through a science-backed skincare routine. Here are the three key products (or steps) of my daily skincare routine that have made the most significant difference.

The Three Longevity Topicals I Recommend

Topicals are a great skincare option because they deliver targeted benefits directly to specific skin concerns. By applying serums, creams, or lotions, active ingredients can address issues like dryness, aging, or acne right at the source. This direct application perfectly complements cosmetic injections in your quest for aging better. While I’m not here to sell you on a specific brand, I personally use and find great results with AlumierMD, which you can purchase at some of the locations I offer cosmetic injections. When choosing the right products for you, be sure to read the ingredients carefully to ensure you’re choosing a formula with active, quality ingredients that are going to be effective.

Vitamin C for Glowing Skin

Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that plays a key role in skin health, far beyond its well-known immune-boosting properties. When applied topically, Vitamin C helps protect the skin from oxidative stress by neutralizing free radicals, which are known to contribute to premature aging. This process aids in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, Vitamin C promotes collagen synthesis, a vital factor in maintaining skin’s firmness and elasticity. It also helps to brighten the complexion by inhibiting melanin production, leading to a more even skin tone and reducing the visibility of hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Incorporating Vitamin C into your skincare routine can enhance skin renewal, providing both protective and corrective benefits.

Sunscreen for Protection

In the last couple decades, we’ve learned how important sunscreen is—I cringe at the thought of our parents going to the beach and slathering on baby oil instead of sunscreen. Sunscreen is a key player in any anti-aging skincare routine because it protects your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays, which are major culprits in premature aging. Regular sun exposure (during all the seasons by the way) accelerates the breakdown of collagen and elastin, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of skin firmness. By applying sunscreen daily, you safeguard your skin from these damaging effects, helping to preserve its youthful texture and elasticity. Plus, sunscreen prevents sunspots and uneven skin tone, ensuring your complexion stays smooth and radiant. It’s a simple yet powerful step that helps maintain your skin’s long-term health and youthful appearance.

Retinol for Renewed Skin

I know you’ve seen retinol all over your feed in recent years, and for good reason. Retinol is a fantastic addition to any anti-aging skincare routine because it works wonders on multiple signs of aging. This Vitamin A derivative helps speed up cell turnover, which smooths out fine lines and wrinkles while improving your skin’s texture and tone. It also boosts collagen production, making your skin firmer and more elastic over time. Plus, retinol can help fade dark spots and even out your complexion, giving you a brighter, more youthful look. By using retinol regularly, you’re not just tackling existing signs of aging, but also helping to prevent new ones, making it a great choice for keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

Cosmetic Injections in Kelowna, Kamloops, and Vernon, BC

Just as cosmetic injections cannot replace a science-backed skincare regimen, a science-backed skincare regimen cannot replace cosmetic injections. They both work together (in different ways) to achieve the common goal of more youthful skin. Cosmetic injections such as Sculptra® and SKINBOOSTERS™ focus on long-term skin health in a similar way to retinol, Vitamin C, and SPF, while dermal fillers and neuromodulators provide more instantaneous results.

If you take anything away from this article, please note that I don’t believe anyone needs cosmetic injections, but I do believe everyone needs a good SPF, retinol, and Vitamin C in their lives. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch. I offer complimentary consultations for botox, dermal filler, Sculptra® and SKINBOOSTERS™ in Kamloops, Kelowna and Vernon, BC.
